This field installation demonstrates a practical open-channel flow measurement arrangement for an industrial water channel in Lima, Peru. The site required continuous flow indication without placing sensitive electronic components directly in the water.
Open-channel applications are fundamentally different from full-pipe flow measurement. The instrument measures the upstream liquid level at a known hydraulic structure, and the transmitter converts that level into flow according to the configured level-to-flow relationship.

The sensor was mounted above the channel to maintain a clear measuring path to the water surface. The local transmitter was installed inside a protective cabinet, separating the electronics and electrical connections from direct exposure to the channel environment.
For reliable operation, the configured channel geometry, zero reference and level-to-flow conversion must match the actual measuring structure. Sensor alignment, the upstream measurement position, turbulent flow, foam and surface conditions should all be reviewed during commissioning.
The arrangement provides continuous local flow indication while avoiding moving parts in the water. It is suitable for industrial wastewater, treatment-plant channels, irrigation systems and other gravity-flow waterways where a calibrated open-channel structure is available.
